On the International Women’s Day, March, 8th 2023, the Acting Coordinator of the African Union CIEFFA, Mrs. Simone Yankey, announced the launch of the African Union CIEFFA Girls’ & Women’s Education Young Person of the Month Award. This initiative aims to celebrate one inspiring young person every month and to recognize her/his work as a role model on Girls’ & Women’s Education in Africa.
The Girls’ and Women’s Education Young Person of the Month Award recognizes a young person who has made outstanding contributions to promoting and advancing education for girls and women. This award seeks to honor individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to improving access to education for girls and women, increasing gender equality in education, and promoting the empowerment of girls and women through education.
Nominees for the award may have initiated and/or led education-related projects, programs, or campaigns that focus on girls and women. They may have worked to increase enrollment, retention, or graduation rates for girls and women in their communities, advocated for policy changes that benefit girls and women in education, or raised awareness about the importance of girls’ and women’s education.
The Girls’ and Women’s Education Young Person of the Month Award aims to recognize the contributions of young people who are making a positive impact on the lives of girls and women through education. The award recognizes pioneering, impactful and ground-breaking role models that work for girls’ and women’s education in Africa.
Starting from March 2023, we will be announcing one person every month. At the African Union CIEFFA, we celebrate our role models every month and we will continuously support them and their work on a daily basis. The selection is made by an internal jury of the African Union CIEFFA, the selected young person can be a female or male who is an active contributor to Girls’ and Women’s Education in Africa.
- Eligibility Criteria:
- The nominee must have made significant contributions to promoting and advancing education for girls and women.
- The nominee must have demonstrated a commitment to improving access to education for girls and women, increasing gender equality in education, and promoting the empowerment of girls and women through education
- The nominee must be of African nationality but may be based anywhere in the world
- Benefits:
- Public recognition for their contributions to girls' and women's education
- Increased visibility and credibility for their work in promoting education for girls and women.
- Opportunities for networking and collaboration with other individuals and organizations working in the field of girls' and women's education
- Potentially, financial support or resources to further their work in promoting education for girls and women
- The opportunity to inspire and motivate others to take action in promoting education for girls and women.
