A delegation from the African Union International Centre for Girls’ and Women’s Education in Africa (AU CIEFFA) concluded an evaluation visit to Lomé, Togo, on November 3–4, 2025. These visits are part of AU CIEFFA’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the implementation of the #AfricaEducatesHer campaign across Member States.
As with previous field missions under the campaign, this visit was held under the theme: “Strengthening Inclusive Education and Promoting Access for Girls and Women to Quality Learning.” The objectives were to assess the state of girls’ education, review the effectiveness of reintegration mechanisms—including national policies and programs for out-of-school girls—and evaluate the implementation of the #AfricaEducatesHer campaign, focusing on its impact, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
The mission also provided Togo with a platform to showcase its ongoing initiatives and progress in promoting girls’ and women’s education. Representatives from the Ministries of Education of Chad and Senegal were also present to share experiences and foster peer learning. The AU CIEFFA team took the opportunity to assess the impact of national investments in girls’ education and the sustainability of campaign-related initiatives.
The delegation, led by Ms. Simone Yankey, AU CIEFFA Coordinator, met key education stakeholders, including H.E. Mama Omorou, Minister of National Education, and representatives from the Ministry of Social Action, Solidarity, and Women’s Empowerment.
The team also engaged with local civil society organisations and visited several schools, including Lycée Moderne Agoè Centre, Lycée Scientifique de Lomé, and Ahounkoin Primary School (EPP). In recognition of Togo’s commitment to the campaign, H.E. Mama Omorou received, on behalf of the government, a trophy awarded by AU CIEFFA, celebrating the successful national implementation of the #AfricaEducatesHer campaign. Togo launched the campaign in October 2024.
This visit was supported by the World Bank under the EAGER Project (East Africa Girls’ Empowerment and Resilience). It represents a key component of AU CIEFFA’s broader mission to ensure education for all, with a strong emphasis on gender equality and the inclusion of girls and young women in African education systems.
