Argentina’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Workshop in collaboration with the African Union through the AU/CIEFFA is convening a joint event on African Union – LATAM: A sustainable approach to Agriculture, Gender and Climate change on the 18th of February 2022 during the Food, Agriculture and livelihoods week at Dubai Expo 2020.

Climate change disruptions threatens to reverse development gain made in access, retention and learning outcomes over the past decades.  The African Union International Centre for Girls and Women’s Education in Africa (AU/CIEFFA), a specialized Institution of the African Union is advocating to build girls and women’ green skills through Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education which will enable the transition to a green and low carbon economy, and support diversification in the sector. 

he AU/CIEFFA will lead the first panel session titled Building Resilience of African Women to Climate Change through Girls and Women’s Education, followed by a panel session on Discovering Trade and Investment Opportunities Between African & Latin-American countries.

Speakers will include Dr. Rita Bissoonauth, Head of Mission, AU/CIFFEA, Dr. Levy Uche Madueke, General Commissioner, Dr. Mbaye Jean-Marie Diouf, General secretary, Agency of Development and Management of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises, Senegal, Mr Pablo Sivori, Joint Secretary of Trade and Investment Promotion, Argentina and Bram Govaerts, CEO CIMMYT (International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center).

Objectives
•    To promote a better understanding on the impact of climate change on girls’ and women education;
•    To engage countries and key stakeholders to discuss on opportunities, gaps and actionable recommendations in developing and implementing gender sensitive disaster risk reduction with regards to climate change effects;
•    To share opportunities of investments between African Union and LATAM in order to connect both worlds.
