The second theme song of the #AfricaEducatesHer Campaign was initiated to support the launch and implementation of the second phase of the Campaign. It is a call to all stakeholders, particularly Member States, to take action and champion gender equality in and through education. This new piece extends the narrative beyond girls and women, actively engaging boys and men as partners in the advocacy for inclusive and equitable education.
Adopting both top‑down and bottom‑up approaches, the song speaks to actors at the national level, passing through teachers and everyone in between, right to the girls themselves at the grassroots level.
Set within a classroom environment and shot in Nairobi, Kenya, the song is a testament to the fact that educating both girls and boys, and allowing them to access, learn and complete their education is a sure way to arrive at the #AfricaWeWant by 2063. It also amplifies advocacy for girls’ participation in STEAM, TVET, and other male-dominated fields.
As a build-up to the first theme song, it was executed in all six official languages of the AU and brought together artists from all five regions of the continent in a quest to promote inclusivity and represent all girls and women in Africa through melody, lyrics and the African creativity and beat.
